My name is Eric Albrecht and I am known as "Blakbird" in many online venues.
I am 37 years old and I live in the northwestern United States. I work as an Aerospace Engineer analyzing the moving parts of commercial airplanes. I like LEGO Technic because I love mechanisms and gears and figuring out how things work. Since I work a lot with hydraulics, I especially like the LEGO pneumatic systems. One of my constructions used over 50 feet (15 meters) of pneumatic tubing!
I have played with LEGO as long as I can remember. As I child, my favorite set was the 924 Space Cruiser. I never had a full "dark ages" when I got rid of all my LEGO, but there were a few years when they were stored in a closet. I did not get my first Technic set until I was adult in about 1996 and I bought set 8480, the Space Shuttle.
Since then I have collected every Expert Builder and Technic set from 1977 to the present. It was hard to decide which sets to get first, even with the Internet. So I decided to start my own website where I write about all of the Technic sets of the past and show how their functions work. It has been fun to look so closely at each model over the years!
In the last couple of years, I have joined SEALUG (Seattle LEGO Users Group) and have attended a couple of conventions including Brickcon and Brickfest. It is always to fun to meet other fans of LEGO and discuss our common love of this brick, the best toy of all time.
I look forward to writing to you again next month.
